This book provides the reader with an updated view of the current state of the challenging field of catalytic arylation reactions. The well-known and established cross-coupling methods (such as the Heck, Suzuki, Negashi, Ullman coupling) are only touched briefly at the beginning. The following chapters focus on more recently developed, concise, and efficacious methods, such as conjugate additions, imine arylation, carbonyl group arylation, C-H activation, alpha-arylation processes, Fe-, Cu- and Au-catalyzed cross-couplings, decarboxylative coupling techniques, catalytic cylcoadditions as well as methods for the arylation of amines, phenols, alcohols and thiols. In all sections, there is a strong focus on asymmetric variants, sustainable processes (alternative solvent systems, catalyst immobilization, the use of alternative reaction activation systems, e.g. microwaves, flow-systems) and industrial applications of the products. A cross-section of relevant experimental protocols that have been tested before hand is included at the end of each chapter, ensuring that the experimental procedures are reproducible. Patent literature is also listed making the book a valuable resource not only for researchers and graduate students in academia but also for synthetic industrial chemists.
