This book serves many important purposes. The process approach to psychological assessment is articulated and the reader clearly instructed on its application when developing educational interventions. Information from relevant literature and results from clinical studies during the scale’s development are provided to facilitate a clinically rich interpretation of a child’s cognitive processes. The reader will learn many new administration and scoring procedures, because relative to the WISC-IV Integrated the fifth edition of the test includes modifications to item content, administration, and scoring procedures for retained subtests, as well as new subtests and the first composite scores ever developed for this measure. There is a great need for practitioners to become facile with administration and scoring of the subtests, as well as the interpretive implications and clinical applications of these measures. The reader will also learn about substantial advances in working memory research that informed the development of working memory measures to allow comprehensive assessment of working memory when the WISC-V and the WISC-V Integrated are used together. This is a unique and important advantage of using the WISC-V Integrated with the WISC-V, because although literature supports domain specificity of working memory (auditory and visual) in children, no commercially available and widely used tests provide measures of both auditory and visual working memory that can be contrasted. In addition, readers will learn about the multiple choice verbal comprehension index (Gc) (composite score) that does not require any expressive responses, which can be used with children with expressive difficulties or who are deaf or hard of hearing.

In addition to the aforementioned purposes, the text author has exclusive access to the standardization data of this test that will permit the creation of several new composite scores designed to increase the utility of the test for the reader. These composite scores will provide parallel alternatives to WISC-V composite scores that may be unobtainable in the presence of expressive difficulties or motor or hearing impairment, thus dramatically increasing the utility of the test with these important populations. They will also provide parallel alternatives to many composite scores created for the Essentials of WISC-V Assessment and Intelligent Testing with the WISC-V, making it their indispensable companion text for anyone who works with children who have special needs and making this book the indispensable companion text to the published test manuals! The addition of this information broadens the appeal of the text to those professionals who work with special populations and often look for solutions that are not forthcoming, or who adhere to a different theoretical model than that reported in the test manuals and want more flexibility or methods of measuring constructs, such as is necessary with cross-battery assessment.
