This book addresses the basic steps necessary to conduct an experimental modal test. This material comes from the author’s 30 years of practicing this material and lecturing for industry and educational audiences on the basics of experimental modal analysis. The Modal Space article series written for SEM Experimental Techniques has been on-going for 17 years and is the longest running, most popular, most downloaded series ever published for Experimental Techniques. This modal space series will be an appendix to the book.

The book will cover the very practical side of the issues to be faced when performing an experimental modal test. There are no other books that treat this material at the level of the practicing engineer or a new entrant to the field of experimental dynamic testing. Other books may claim to be practical, but these books are riddled with theory that cloud the practical issues that every day engineers face when conducting real world tests.
