Statistical Methods for Rates and Proportions, 4th Edition

This popular and best-selling book has been updated to reflect recent developments in the field of categorical data analysis and theory underlying these methods.  In particular, the book is now supplemented with a separate SAS® and R guide to implement many of the methods and applications found within the book.  New features of the Fourth Edition include the non-superiority design for Phase II clinical trials (the so-called "futility" design that has enjoyed recent popularity in phase II clinical trials for degenerative neurological diseases); innovative study designs for adaptive clinical trials, which has received a great deal of interest and attention from the pharmaceutical industry and more recently NIH-funded clinical trialists; selection procedures for identifying the best treatment from among several competing candidates and its generalizations, i.e. selecting the best subset of treatments of size two or more; new methods for sparse categorical data including applications to meta-analysis of rare adverse events in clinical trials and pharmacovigilance data mining projects; and methods for "unfriendly" count data with heavy tails and clumping of frequencies that is found in HIV/AIDS studies of behavioral interventions to reduce risky sex behavior.  Based on user feedback, SAS® and R modules have been added to each chapter, and links to additional support for the online community are included.   Several new problems and exercises have been added, and the solutions to all numerical problems are included as well as hints for the solutions to the theoretical problems.
